After a few months using the Oneplus 5T as my daily driver - I was sold! Just like the 5 - the fast response, the battery life and that price tag! My thought was that there is very little that needs to be changed, and two of those things were the remaining bezels and camera upgrade. Enter - Oneplus 6!
I've been using the Oneplus 6 for this review for the past week, I got the 256Gb (8Gb of RAM). All tests are done using the native OxygenOS 9.0.2.
Bottom line: This is a great smartphone in a very attractive body, a better than most camera and moderate price tag!
This is a great smartphone at a great value price wise.
The software is Android based, great and fluid while getting regular updates.
The battery is above average - easy covering a day of moderate usage, updates might make it even better.
The camera is much approved than the last model - dynamic range is way better, while the zoom option took a hit due to the lack of dedicated zoom lens, the depth effect is loads of fun and the overall camera performance is great.
Camera
The camera setup here is:
On the back - Dual OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) cameras with 16MP and 20MP (The 20MP is used mostly for low light situations)
On the front - 16MP single lens.
The camera here is a great improvement over the last generation, although spec-wise - it's nearly identical.
Having said that, this camera is one of the best I've used -
Pictures in good light come out great, dynamic range is on point and the pictures are sharp and detailed.
Depth effect is fun to play with.
Low light pictures much improved over the last generation, with Night Scene making it even better.
Panorama mode is fantastic.
The video (even 4K video) is well stabilized and the 1080p 60fps is very pleasing.
Selfie is above average with beauty mode added with the possibility of screen flash.
Time-laps video is among the best out there (although Apple implementation is in my opinion the best).
Sunrise (Oneplus 5T LEFT & Oneplus 6 RIGHT) Samples
As you can plainly see the dynamic range and on the Oneplus 6 is much better than the Oneplus 5T - making the pictures look full of light, with much more details in the shadow (like the trees in the back).
Indoor and Indoor low light - Iron Man modeling (Oneplus 5T LEFT & Oneplus 6 RIGHT) Samples
You can see the colors on the Oneplus 6 are more accurate and real life than the Oneplus 5T, also the dynamic range is much better - with more light and details indoors.
Trying the Night Scene mode for low light photography (left to right) Oneplus 5T, Oneplus 6, Oneplus 6 Night Scene, you can see a slight improvement from the regular photo mode - with more light and detail, but every improvement is always welcome!
Night outdoor scene (Oneplus 5T LEFT & Oneplus 6 RIGHT) Samples
These photos were shot at night (left to right) Oneplus 5T, Oneplus 6, Oneplus 6 Night Scene.
The best thing you can see is the detail and noise reduction on the Oneplus 6. The colors are warmer, but the result is much more vibrant than the Oneplus 5T.
