Just got my hands on the new Apple TV 4k, and I have to say - I was a little skeptic to see any real difference from my previous Apple TV 4th generation... But boy I'm happy I was wrong!
This review isn't a comparison of what's out there, but for those who are wondering if the Apple TV 4k worth the upgrade.
PROs
Small and compact hardware.
Great remote, responsive and able to the control sound system as well.
Remote is rechargeable via lightning cable
Able to stream content at 4k HDR10 and HDR Dolby.
Behaves well with Apple ecosystem
Apple tvOS is fast and fluid, the Ariel cut scenes are so good that they makes every other screen saver feel silly
Great games for kids with an interactive remote.
Apple has a wide base of accessories - the Apple TV is no stranger - you can buy a case for the remote, a mount for the streamer itself to put it behind the TV etc.
The tvOS in 4k and general picture quality is better than previous generation and other streaming boxes. the Apple TV 4k supports various videos settings such as: HDR, SDR with chroma 4:2:0 or 4:4:4 - and if you aren't familiar with those settings - they just point to better than most picture quality. The next photos are a comparison from Apple TV 4th Generation and Apple TV 4k on the same TV - up close, the tvOS does look better and sharper, and it is translated to a better viewing experience.
CONs
Apple ecosystem isn't for everyone
The remote is very very fragile
Relatively expensive compare to other streamers
Siri on the Apple TV doesn't work in every country yet, only a hand full
Not a gaming console by any means
There aren't a lot of apps in the tvOS app store
Rather expensive in comparison to the competition
Bottom line: This update is ONLY for the ones who have the 4k HDR compatible TV sets. The streamer is able to upgrade your viewing experience substantially, and the tvOS is one of the best and most fluid I've seen.
If you don't have the latest 4k HDR TV set or you're not planning to buy one this year, this upgrade is not for you, there are better options out there that will make your FULL HD TV better and smarter - For example - Apple TV 4th Generation.
Other than that it's really the little things of the tvOS that makes the Apple TV seams like magic, things like when the screen dims in order to avoid damaging the TV in long periods of inactivity - once you pick up the remote the accelerometer in the remote wakes the TV instantly, which is cool!
Word of Advice: If you're not going to play a lot of games on the Apple TV - There is very little reason to buy the 64Gb version - Just buy 32Gb.
