Yes, it's that time of the year! Apple has gathered everyone and showcased it's new iPhone line-up at the "Steve Jobs" Theater at Apple Park in Cupertino, USA.

Without further ado, here are the new products:

iPhone X Edition

Yes, it's here... all the leaks were right - 5.8" of near bezel-less display using OLED technology which means - perfect blacks and infinite contrast ratio! Apple was always good at making their phone screens feel the best there is, and this is no exception: True tone display which adapts the environment light to the display color.

PERSONAL NOTE: OLED technology tend to have screen retention which means that the image stays burned to the display, this could be temporary or eternal... As this is the very first OLED display Apple is using - I would wait a couple of months to see if its done right.

Moving to the rest of the hardware:

  • There is no more physical home button, and the solution is to use software trickery in order to have that button when you need it. No physical home button means - There is no more touch ID, that means - no more fingerprint unlocking, it is replaced by face recognition, hopefully it won't be easily fooled as the one on Android.

  • Still no headphone jack.... MEH!

  • Waterproofing is here to stay.

  • Wireless charging is here, although personally I'm not a fan - as I know most charging takes place while you do something with the device.

  • That camera: the front and back cameras here are almost brand new, packed with features! it has depth sensing for AR (Augmented Reality) and depth effect for the pictures, dual lens and a feature packed software to use it.

PERSONAL NOTE: While they presented a great looking photos at the event, saying they weren't retouched using software, if the camera is your main concern while buying a smartphone - I would wait for a different review more objective review as photos in these events are shot by professionals using different kinds of equipment to get that perfect shot.

Final thoughts: YES! this is the iPhone you've been waiting for, but try to wait a little longer, as the price is very high 999$, the hardware is very new - OLED and depth sensing camera, and no one knows the real life results of that combination. Wait a couple of months, although price at the Apple store will never go down - other store might hold sales.

Shipping on November 3rd

iPhone 8 & 8 Plus

No big changes here, just glass on the back... all of the changes takes place on the inside - new processor and internals, which means most likely better performance and battery life.

Main specifications:

  • Still no headphone jack.... MEH!

  • Waterproofing is here to stay.

  • Wireless charging is here, although personally I'm not a fan - as I know most charging takes place while you do something with the device.

  • That camera: the front and back cameras here are almost brand new, packed with features! it has depth sensing for AR (Augmented Reality) and depth effect for the pictures, dual lens (for the Plus Model) and a feature packed software to use it.

PERSONAL NOTE: No, it's not enough for an upgrade from the previous iPhone 7 and 7 plus, but if you come from the 5 or 5s, it might be the upgrade you wanted.

It will be available from September 22nd

Apple TV (5th generation)

This is the one I've personally been waiting for - the new hardware at the Apple TV line. This device can deliver the 4k resolution of the new age, it's faster and support HDR so it can take the maximum advantage of the different streaming services.

This would probably be on my shopping list this year.

It will be available September 22nd for 179$ for the entry model.

iOS 11

Almost complete overhaul with lots of features and new and exciting stuff! Most of the features seen in this event where seen at Apple's WWDC event 3 months ago - From the multitasking capabilities of the iPad Pro to the updated control center.

What's new here? well, the implementation of the features on the new iPhone X - the software home button, the use of personalized emoji (using your very own expression), the face ID option and much more. This is one of the biggest updates since iOS 7 in my opinion, and it seems for the best.

The update will come on September 19th
