If you're reading this, chances are you own a smartphone and looking into buying a new case for it.

As I see it, there are 5 kinds of smartphone case person out there:
The Purist - This person likes his smartphones as close to stock as possible - "The purist experience" - either as bought or with a simple skin glued on it. PROs The phone is slim and as pretty as the company designed it to be. CONs Drops are usually fatal.
Manufacturers: dbrand.
The Minimalist - This person likes a thin phone but... wants to add just a tiny protection using a very thin case, protection at least from scratches and small drops. PROs The phone stays slim, and changing the outside design is easy. CONs High drops are still a significant danger.
Manufacturers: Spigen, Nillkin, incipio, rhinoshield, Speck.
The Flipper - This person likes a medium protection for the phone, and a flip cover the entire screen - either for protection or to incorporate credit card sleeve. PROs Medium device protection with excellent screen protection. CONs Bulky and space consuming, the device isn't thin anymore and if you have a credit card in there - if the smartphone is stolen so are your credit cards.
The Battery Enthusiast - This person likes his phone charged at any given time, bulkiness isn't an issue. The case is basically just a giant additional battery. PROs Never go power hungry again! Most cases have high device protection. CONs Heavy and bulky, some cases needs a different cable to charge the device (Micro USB, lightning, USB-C).
The Heavy Duty -This person is basically trying to save his phone from all the drops he WILL endure. This is most of the times a military grade, MIL-STD-810 (Military environmental qualification specification) compliant case. PROs Save your phone from most drops, some cases adds water protection. CONs Heavy, bulky, adds an easily scratched built in screen protector, this isn't a phone any more - more like a walkie-talkie.
