The world of cloud computing and cloud storage is booming the last few years. Many tech companies turn to the cloud, companies like: Microsoft (OneDrive), Google (Drive), Dropbox and many more.

The clear benefit of cloud storage is that you can access it from almost anywhere, not needing to take that precious storage with you on the road.
Most of these companies give you a relative small amount of storage for free - several gigabyte at most. If you want an upgraded storage space - it needs a monthly subscription and it usually isn't cheap.
Enter - Western Digital My Cloud storage. This is a Network Attached Storage (NAS for short), which stays at your home and plugged directly to your router.

Let's go directly to PROs and CONs:
PROs:
Relative cheap mass amount of storage - 2TB up to 8TB.
Privacy achieved - no more Google or Microsoft looking into your files without your permission.
More than one device (PC, smartphone, tablet etc.) can
access the storage at the same time.
Perfect solution for media center storage purposes.
The smartphone app for Android or iOS is great to quickly access the storage on the fly. Additionally, it can backup your smartphone photos automatically directly to the drive.
USB 3.0 connection on the storage is present in order to fast transfer data directly to the device (CAUTION: Not intended to direct PC connection).
Can be used to send invites for specific files via email to different people.
CONs:
Access speed depends on the router (My Cloud supports 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 connection) for local connection and internet upload/download speed for outside connection. WARNING: Relative low transfer speeds are almost a certainty.
No backup in case the storage fails.
No direct PC connection, only through LAN connection (USB is for mobile storage direct connection only).
Power and LAN connection via router needed.
Who is it for?
Media center enthusiast with a large digital library.
Photographers (professional or entry level) who needs the storage backup and the access.
Musicians with a large library of songs or demos.
Medium to large families with many devices at home.
Would I recommend? YES! I have the My Cloud storage for several years now and I am very satisfied. Just be sure to weight in the PROs and CONs and see if you really need one.
